Haverthwaite is a civil parish in the South Lakeland district of the English county of Cumbria. Nestled in the Leven Valley on the edge of the Lake District, lies the picturesque villages of Haverthwaite and Backbarrow.

Haverthwaite

Havertwaite is a small village situated on the west bank of the River Leven in the Furness region of Cumbria.

Haverthwaite Station, once part of the Furness Railway transporting coal and iron ore deposits from mines, is on the preserved Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway. Enjoy afternoon tea in the station tea room, before taking a voyage on a steam locomotive.

Backbarrow

Backbarrow is a village in the Lake District National Park in England. It lies on the River Leven about 5 miles (8 km) northeast of Ulverston in Furness in the county of Cumbria.

Steeped in history; Internationally important in the story of the iron industry, the remains of Backbarrow Ironworks have been referred to as “the best illustration nationally of iron-smelting technology”. Head down memory lane to the Lakeland Motor Museum and feast your eyes on a unique collection of 30,000 exhibits. That includes 140 classic cars and motorbikes, all carefully assembled over 50 years.
